Hello:

I am using the latest SmithCart and everything is working fine.  The customer transferred from another website where she claims that their settings for PayPal Website Pro let them process the order within PayPal.  Does this sound like any setting in SmithCart, perhaps something I am missing?  She says PayPal is charging their fees on the entire amount (product + shipping) instead of just product.

SmithCart 4.49, DNN 6.0, SQL 2008. We are doing Custom Ship by Weight.

Thanks much!

Mark

All PayPal website services (Standard and Pro) charge you on the total transaction amount including shipping.

I think you will find this with every payment processor.

Hey:

Thanks for the quick response.  I have talked to her a little more and she has talked to PayPal.  Yes, everybody charges on the full transaction.  She was not aware of that.  What she is looking for is if there is a way to process shipping within PayPal.  Apparently, they spend quite a bit each month to have PayPal print shipping labels and they can choose between UPS or USPS at that time.  She called PayPal support and they started talking about the API.  So my question is, does SmithCart do anything like that?  I have looked through the manual.  I guess a bigger question might be: Why would you pay PayPal when SmithCart has so many shipping options?  Is that a valid quesiton?

Many Thanks.

Mark

Directly from the paypal site

PayPal offers a free, convenient and easy way to take care of your shipping needs with a variety of helpful shipping tools - with no hidden fees.

However, I could not find the fees.

As far as SmithCart goes, their job is done with the order and payment collection. Although we can imagine further integration with UPS and USPS, Canada Post and Royal Mail Group, I suspect that eBay/PayPal have far more resources, volume and power to accomplish this task. I do know that Canada Post shipping labels are only available through their own software or exclusively through PayPal and UPS only allows daily pickup customers to use OnLine Compatible applications like WorldShip and ShipRush Pro Edition.

Personally. I would use the individual shipping sites - but there's the hook with PayPal - how do you get the information back into the shipping sites?

All said and done, this works mostly with single orders of one carton. I have no clue how multiple tracking numbers are handled.

To be honest, I had to reread your question and still have not determined if she spends too much time or money or is just looking for an alternative or automated method.

This looks promising

I do have a few suggestions for a client side solution, but it depends on too many unknown factors at this time.

Hey:

Thanks much for the thorough answer.  I am learning that she spends a lot of time wondering why everything does not fit her idea of exactly how things should work as well as not doing much RTFM on her own.  I have started answering with page references to the manual to try to encourage her to read it.  She's pretty smart but I think she like's the "Ask an Expert" button too much.

Thanks again!

Mark

After reading the manual (what a concept), we flipped the "Authorize Only" checkbox.  Now orders are processed in PayPal but we still don’t have the communication between the shopping cart and Paypal working completely.  The shipping address and buyer’s email are not being pushed to Paypal.  I spoke w/Paypal about this and they said it had to come from a setting on the shopping cart.  I can’t find where to get that info to transmit.

Is this part of the PayPal IPN thread?

Thanks!

Mark

Hey:

Can I get an answer to this?  It seems like a valid question.

Thanks.

Hi Mark,

The Cart is not currently programmed to send the Shipping Information to PayPal. The only information that is currently passed are the fields required for card authorization. If you would like programming to provide a fixed quote to send the Shipping Information to PayPal as well, please send an email with a link to this forum post to sales@smith-consulting.com.

Thanks,
