I am not able to get any of the products that have variants to get added to the cart.  The products without variants get added just fine.  I thought it might be the products with hidden variants but even simple products with a single variant will not get added.

Hi Tim,

Are you able to proceed to the Product Details page from the ProductListing page when clicking the Add Options Button? Are there any errors logged in the Event Viewer?

Thanks,

Yes you can go from product listing page to the product details page by clicking the Add Options button.  No errors are generated in the event log.

Hi Tim,

I have not been able to reproduce this behavior. Did you import your product data or enter them through the the Cart GUI? Have you set the BuyNow page name in the ProductDetails module settings?

Thanks,

I imported the basic product information and then manually added the variants to each product.  The product details module does in fact have the buynow page name set correctly.

Hi Tim,

The issue you are having is most likely in your import data.  To confirm, add and configure a product which includes at least 1 variant through the Cart GUI and test to see if you are able to add the new product to the Cart.

Thanks,

I have confirmed that adding a product with variants manually does allow the product to be added to the cart.  I really do not want to re-enter all the products manually.  Is there a fix or work around for this issue?

The product import works if your import xls has all the correct fields according to the spec and your data is clean so you shouldnt have to enter all your products manually. Here are a couple of tips to get your inport xls in a good clean format that can be imported properly:

1. Make sure that you have all the fields in the proper order and all the required fields populated and with the correct data type.

2. Make sure that alphanumeric fields that have all numbers (i.e. sku) have a single quote in front of the them as excel converts these fields to numbers or scientific notation in some cases if the number is big enough.

3. What is the source system that your data is coming from? If the data is coming from a database other than sql server like a uniz platform, mainframe or vsam/isam files the data is most likely stored in a different data format and when exported could include characters that may not be visible in ascii so make sure your data is clean of any special characters before importing using the SC product import.

4,. Check your dnn event viewer for any errors after you import the data.

I downloaded an XLS file from your website and filled in the fields by copy/paste from another spreadsheet.  What is the correct data type?  I assume a general or text field is correct.  Can you be more specific in this area?  I didn't use a third party "generated" data source.  i copied and pasted data from another spreadsheet.

Once I get the the import sheet setup correctly, how can I start with a fresh product database?  Can I wipe all the current data to start fresh?

Hi Tim,

Make sure that alphanumeric fields that have all numbers (i.e. sku) have a single quote in front of the them as excel converts these fields to numbers or scientific notation in some cases if the number is big enough.

To ensure the correct data format, I suggest first copying to notepad before pasting to the SmithCart spreadsheet to strip characters that may not be visible.

Thanks,
