I'm having an odd shipping price calculation issue.
We have experiencing higher shipping rates for first class mail then what the USPS shows on their website and on our old store website (used Miva for that site). For a 7 ounce book Miva and USPS shows it to be $2.56. But Smith-cart (we have it configured to use USPS) consistently shows the shipping to cost $5.10! This is the same value they put in priority mail (which Miva and USPS shows to be $5.10). So it's like the SMith Cart is taking the priority mail value and sticking it under First class too. Please advise!
I'm using DNN Community Edition 5.06.00 (459) and Smith Cart version 4.84.0.
Thanks!
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
I just tried to replicate this issue in our test environment was unable to recreate the same issue you reported but I may not have the exact same configuration as you. Can you login to our test site http://www7.smith-consulting.com/ and try to replicate the error. This will determine if the issue is with the latest version of the cart or an issue with your specific dnn portal/cart install.
Send an email to kevin@smith-consulting.com with a link to this forum post if login credentials are needed.
Thanks,

Can you explain how to test weight/shipping issues on your test store site? I add a product but not sure what all I'm supposed to do after that. On checkout it wants a valid credit card number. I don't see where shipping calculations are supposed to show up so I can see.

OK after more testing we found something really odd. So we deleted all the USPS shipping methods and just added back in "first class" and then tried to place an order on our site. When we get to the checkout page and put in our address "first class" is the only option on the "ship method" drop down. So that's good! But then we we click "calculate shipping" button then "1st class" disappears from the drop down and the shipping fee above in the cart STILL says "TBD" and of course the cart won't let us continue. So definitely seems to be a bug with shipping calculations and mainly with "first class."
When we take out "first class" as a ship method and just add in "priority mail" and "parcel post" then the shipping calculator works and we can place an order. So something is wrong with "first class."

Hi Andrew,
Which Payment Gateway do you have configured?
I just tried to re-produce this issue on my test portal and was unable to reproduce the same but I may not have the exact same configuration as you. Can you login to our test site http://www7.smith-consulting.com/ and try to replicate the error. This will determine if the issue is with the latest version of the cart or an issue with your specific dnn portal/cart install.
Please send an email to kevin@smith-consulting.com if you need login credentials.
Thanks,

OK see below. This shows what our current store has setup and we duplicated the bug on your test store. Please help us get this fixed as we are live already and this is hurting our customers as they can't select 1st class shipping due to the wrong values being shown!
----------------------
Store and product details:
Manufacturer: Microsoft
sku: weightTest1234
product name: weightTest
weight: 7 (ounces)
-------------------------
store postal zip code (general store setup for : 93703
shipping and handling setup: select "shipping calculator" for shipping method
then for shipping carrier select: USPS
for ship methods be sure "parcel post," and "media mail," and "priority mail," and "first class" are selected!
weight unit of measure: make sure it's "ounces"
------------------------
place order… select quantity 1 for that product.
for shipping country and state and zip choose the following:
United States
California
95648
For shipping method: select "First class"
notice how it's $5.20. This priority mail and parcel posts true rates (which the drop down shows as correct)! In reality a 7 ounce 1st class shipment is around 50% less than $5.20. Also notice that "first class" disappears from the drop down menu after you change the shipping to it. It's definitely a bug where first class is taking the value of "parcel post" and/or "priority mail" and then disappearing from the drop down list after it's selected. When you hit "change shipping" it reappears on the list. None of the other shipping methods do that.
We really need this bug fixed as all our customers usually choose 1st class and this is charging 2x as much. You can see the true value for a 7 ounce shipment between the above store's zip code and the shipping zip code by going to USPS.gov.
Please advise…
Thanks!
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Sorry to hear that you are having trouble processing orders on your live site. I recommend always doing an upgrade of SmithCart in a test environment first and as always make sure you have a full backup before installing on your live site in case it needs to be restored to avoid issue processing live transactions.
In regards to the issue you reported, when using the USPS shipping Calculator, and configuring the First Class Shipping Method I have been able to replicate the behavior of the First Class Shipping Method option will no longer be available to select after clicking the "Calculate Shipping" button. I will send this issue into programming and will postback as soon as an update is available.
Thanks,

Thanks Kevin!
The issue is the bug was always there so making a backup wasn't needed. The upgrade we did to your latest versions didn't fix the bug either. So we can't wait for an update on this issue.
Glad to hear the bug was replicated. Also let them know about the values being pulled into First class from USPS are wrong. Thanks!
Andrew

We've got a DNN 6.1.3 / SmithCart 4.86.0 site that has a similar issue, although even after we eliminate First Class as a shipping option we still get bad behavior.
We are doing a ship method of "Shipping Calculator (UPS, USPS, FedEx, Canada Post, Australia Post)", with Priority Mail and Express Mail as options. We eliminated First Class as a method after reading this thread.
The cart doesn't display all of the ship choices during checkout. We've tried different combinations, and it doesn't look to be caused by having a particular ship method included or not. In other words, the cart has issues no matter what USPS ship choices we enable/disable.

FWIW, on January 22, 2012, USPS will update domestic shipping services and international pricing and product features. For detailed information on prices and new product features, please reference the Federal Register Notices viewable at http://pe.usps.com/.

Hello,
The issue with the USPS First Class Shipping Method is currently being addressed by our programmers.
regarding the other Shipping Method issues, how do you have the General Cart Setup section of your Cart Setting configured?
What is the the Ship To address entered in the Cart?
Which USPS shipping methods are not being displayed which should be?
Thanks,

General Cart Setup is pretty tame:
checked: hide handling
uncehcked: hide shipping, hide tax, hide subtotal
Minimum Order Quantity: NULL
Insert Custom Checkout Page (Cart): NULL
Inser Custom Checkout Page (Step 2): NULL
Auto Populate Behavior: Use Session, Cookies and DNN Profile
Shipping Carrier: USPS
Selected Ship Methods: First Class, Priority Mail and Express Mail
Combine Shipping Methods: Combine Ship Methods - Sort Top
-----------------------
Shipping Address: 5 Valley Street, Beverly, MA 01915
With first visit to cart, all 3 Shipping Methods are present in the Ship Method dropdown.
Select "First Class" and "Calculate Shipping":
- removes Express Mail from the dropdown, leaving First Class -- $5.20, Priority Mail -- $12.95
Select "Priority Mail" and "Calculate Shipping":
- removes Express Mail from the dropdown, leaving First Class -- $5.20, Priority Mail -- $12.95
Select "Express Mail" and "Calculate Shipping":
- removes Express Mail from the dropdown, leaving First Class -- $5.20, Priority Mail -- $12.95
If First Class is removed as a Ship Method (remaining ship methods: Priority Mail, Express Mail)
With first visit to cart, 2 shipping methods are present in the Ship Method dropdwon,
Select "Priority Mail" and "Calculate Shipping":
- removes Express Mail from the dropdown, leaving Priority Mail -- $12.95
Select "Express Mail" and "Calculate Shipping":
- removes Express Mail from the dropdown, leaving Priority Mail -- $12.95
Expected behavior:
In all cases, all shipping methods should always be available shipping choices - it's a domestic USA address.

Hello,
How do you have the General Cart Setup section of your Cart Setting configured?
Such as Country, Store State/Region, and Store Postal Code so we can set our store to reflect yours and test the shipping method issue when calculating shipping.
Thanks,
