Just doing some testing in the sandbox with recurring billing with Paypal pro and have a question. Would like to set up some subscription products on my site.  For my test, I created a weekly recurring billing product and made a test purchase. The purchase was successful and the correct roles were added and removed, but a week has just passed and I am not seeing another charge.  The purchase was made on 3/4/2012 at 6:22 PM, so my question is when should the recurring payment be processed? (3/11/2012 at midnight or would it be 3/11/2012 at 6:22PM?)

Also, will the role expiration date be changed when the recurring billing takes place?

Just as an update, the recurring billing never happened...Paypal Pro does support recurring billing correct? Is there a place in the cart admin that will show when a payment is supposed to renew or somewhere in the sandbox? I have looked and haven't been able to tell.

When I goto the manage orders section of the admin and view the transaction, it says recurring, but no other details.  Thanks.

Hi Ricky,

Yes, SmithCart supports recurring billing using the Paypal Website Payments Pro gateway. Subscriptions and Recurring Payments is only available for Business or Premier PayPal accounts.

Once the transaction has been processed in the Cart, recurring transactions are handled via the PayPal Virtual Terminal. I believe you may find the following video helpful:

Kevin,

I already have a Paypal business account and am using PayPal website payments pro to process payments through my site.  Are you saying that in addition to that I also need to purchase the Paypal virtual terminal as well to process recurring payments? Thanks.

 

*EDIT: I see that I already have access to virtual terminal, but there is still some confusion as to why the recurring billing is not showing up in the recurring billing dashboard within PayPal.

Kevin,

Making some progress here, but there still might be an issue that needs to be looked at on your side.  I went back in to the product settings and noticed that my values for recurring billing did not hold.  It was wierd, I tried a couple of times on weekly and it didn't hold, then I switched to monthly and got the settings to save and now I do see a recurring transaction in the sandbox.  I do have one question about the recurring billing start date field....does it need a value?  The reason I ask is that the transaction was approved, but showed 0.00 as the amount charged.  I had the value set for 3/1 and it says the next payment would be april 14, 2012. If I leave those values unselected, will it charge initially instead of waiting a month?

*Cart version 4.92

Hi Ricky,

If no value is entered in the Recurring Billing Start Date field then the recurring transaction starts on the day that the order was placed.
