Using Cart 4.52 with PayPal Standard. The client checks out and are told it was declined. The Manage Orders shows status 'false' but the order goes through and the customer is confused. Happens a whole lot.Only me? Ideas?

Hi John,
This typically happens when one of the following scenarios occurs:

1. User closes their browser after making payment at PayPal and never returns to your site and the cart.

2. The cart return url is not configured properly at Paypal.

If you are showing some transactions as approved in your store then item 1 is the most likely culprit.

I have the cart return URL set in the cart settings (after payment section) but I'm not aware of any setting in PP for that return. It should use the cart settings as part of what's sent over to PP, at least that's what I thought. I'm in their PP and I don't see a place for settings like that.

Are you sure?

Hi John,

To set up Auto Return:

  • Log in and click the Profile subtab under My Account.
  • Click the Website Payment Preferences link under Selling Preferences.
  • Click the On radio button to enable Auto Return.
  • Enter the Return URL.

I also see a lot of PayPal orders dropping out. They pay in PayPal, but the order shows up as "Awaiting Payment" in Smith Cart. I will change my PayPal merchant account and add the "Auto Return" option.

 

BTW as of 21 Apr 2012, to get to the PayPal Web page options, the path is:

MyAccount -> Profile -> My Selling Tools -> Website preferences (under "Selling online") -> Update -> Auto Return

Hi Pierre,

Thanks for updated PayPal web page instructions, I will also update this in our manual.

Also, in the next release of the Cart, we have implemented the PayPal's IPN which guarantees the Cart always gets the payment response from PayPal even if the user closes their browser at PayPal after completing the transaction.
