How can I modify the product detail page to add a link for further information about the different product variants on that page? In demo-ing the system today, my customer really slammed me because I told him I couldn't link descriptive help to a particulate variant. I see his point. How would a customer ever know what a "hat channel track" was, let alone how many feet of it he/she needs to add to the order as a variant?

Can you add a "?" icon to the right of the variant box and have a link to a further description?

Couple options you can try:

  1. Add a link in the variant name field
  2. Create a product description tab for each variant with the link in the description

Ok, Let's try some other ideas. The variant name and the other fields are not wide enough to code the anchor tab. It truncates the html and displays what's left. You see in the drop down something like "3 FEET a href=....

As for suggestion two, there aren't even close to the number of tabs for the number of options I have to deal with.

So.......

How do I modify the product description page to add a right hand column that I can add links for additional help or can you add a help URL to the list of variants fields and display a help question mark icon if it is filled in?

You can modify the productdetails.ascx page and add any graphics or links you want. The issue you may run into is that the content you add to the page will not be dynamic to the product or variant like the other fields are.

Without having the help dynamic by variant, how would you expect people to know what the variants mean?

Won't any changes to the ProductDetail.aspx file be overwritten the next time there is an update?

What you need is a variant label control added to the list of variant control options where you can enter the link. The label control for a variant is not a built in feature of the cart currently. Yes if you make any changes to ascx pages and upgrade later they are overwritten.

Oh I know what's needed and what isn't there. I just asked for my latest estimate to add another feature to the cart like the copy variant, the text box quantity, and the Elavon Gateway that I've bought so far.
