Hi Steven, When you select HST as the tax option in your store the cart uses the tax table to lookup the province and get the tax rate. HST is only charged for customers in your home province. The HST tax option requires that you add provinces you want to charge tax in to the “Smith_Tax” table. To enter hst tax rates for provinces go to the store admin menu and click the "Tax Setup" button. Product prices should be entered exclusive of tax – meaning tax is not included in the product price when entering products in the product setup screen.

Thanks Scott,
Under the Store Admin menu I found the "Tax Tables" button, but there are only 2 options: "Import Tax Table" and "Delete Tax Table".In the User's Manual I found some information related to the table structure on page 185, but a bit confusing, since the screenshot shows "Postal Code" field and the text says "Zip" field.
(The following is the correct CSV import format: City, County, State, Zip, TaxRate)
Also I cannot imagine how this works. Is it matching the postal code from checkout with the postal code with this table? Then I would need to create a really huge tax table to include all postal codes from Canada. Also there is no County field required at checkout (only Country). There is a State/Region field at checkout which should be more relevant, but I don't see it in the tax table structure.
Another question: Can we set up taxes per product instead? I see that in the product setup screen there is a "Tax Rate" field, but how should I configure the tax under the Cart Settings? As I remember the "Tax Rate" from the product setup screen was not applied.
Thank you,
Steven

Hi Steven,
When using the HST tax option, the cart uses the tax table to lookup the Province/State field in the Tax Table and get the tax rate.
When the “Use Step1 Dropdown List in Tax Lookup” feature is enabled, the cart will look up the tax rate in the tax table by tax district(county) and state(province). This option requires that you configure either tax districts or counties in the Step 1 dropdown list. The value selected in step 1 dropdown is used to filter the county field in “Smith_Tax” table.
The Tax Rate field found in the Product Setup screen is used for the EU VAT Regulations By Product tax setting.
Thanks,

I created a CSV file with this structure:
City, County, Province, Postal Code, Tax Rate and it imported successfully, but I see that the fields are:
City, County, State, Postal Code, Tax Rate (Province converted to State), so I guess that's the correct structure.
I noticed in the Smith_Tax table the State CA, so I guess the provinces should be abbreviated (AB, BC, MB, NB, NL, NT, NS, NU, ON, PE, QC, SK, YT), am I right?
And is it OK to leave the rest of the fields (County, City, PostalCode) empty?
How can you determine which province is the buyer from if you only ask the province at the very last step of the checkout process, and you already show the price with tax in the very beginning, when they add something to the shopping cart. (It shows tax 0% there)
Thank you,
Steven

Hi Steven,
How do you have the Shipping and Handling Setup section of your Cart Settings configured?
Thanks,

Hi Kevin,
Under Shipping and Handling Setup I have selected "Product Level Shipping Costs"
And by the way, I just switched to the option "Flat Tax All Orders" because at least that option seemed to work and calculating 13% tax for all products, but we just had an order for 2 products at a time, and it showed $200 for subtotal, sales tax $26, but the total was $206 instead of $226.
Thanks,
Steven

Hi Steven,
When using Product Level Shipping Costs with Tax Tables and the Step 1 dropdown list the cart will look up the tax rate in the tax table by tax district(county) and state(province) which are entered on Step 1 of checkout then apply the matching Tax Rate to the order on the Confirmation page.
Regarding the issue you reported in the previous post, I haven't been able to replicate the issue but I may not have the exact same configuration as you. Would you mind logging into our test site to replicate the issue? This will determine if the issue is with the latest version of the cart or an issue with your specific dnn portal/cart install.

Sorry, regarding the issue I mentioned last time, I noticed that there was a coupon applied, but that is another problem. The coupon discount should be deducted from the subtotal and applied tax on top, and instead the coupon discount value was deducted from the total amount which included tax. Don't you think that is a the correct way of doing it?
Coming back to my original problem: I wanted to use the HST tax option, not US states. I see that the "Use Tax Tables" option only have the US states (another problem here: you can select multiple states on the left, but cannot add them all at once to the right). So I understood that by using the HST option I still need to import a tax table manually. There is not "Step 1 Dropdown List" option when you select the HST tax option. Can you tell me exactly how you set up the tax rates by province with HST?
Thanks, Steven

OK, I have created a tax table with this structure:
City, County, State, PostalCode, TaxRate
and under State column I used abbreviated code of Canadian provinces:
AB, BC, MB, NB, NL, NT, NS, NU, ON, PE, SK, YT
and filled out the TaxRate column for each.
It looks like is applying the corresponding tax, but customers who visit our site for the first time, will not see the correct tax and total price on the Shopping Cart page (before the Step1) page.
The State/Region is only asked at Step 1, but you already showed the price in the previous page, and Step 2 already asking for credit card information where they could be with the wrong impression of confirming the price that the saw before Step 1. If I click Back 2 times, I can see that the price is changed, but I think they should see the corrected tax and total somewhere at the end where they fill out their credit card info.
Thanks,
Steven

Hi Steven,
When using "Product Level Shipping Costs" with the "Use Tax Tables" option, the Cart currently calculates the tax based on the address entered on Step 1 of checkout. After filling out the information on Step 1 the user will then be directed to Step 2 to enter their Payment Info. After clicking next on Step 2, the user will be directed to the Confirmation page where all the order info including tax and total is displayed before payment is processed.
Hope this helps!

Hi Steven, It seems that you have the same problem that I have. which is sales tax=0 in my case I'm selling service, which means the customer is not adding his county. also tax rates in Canada are fixed for the same province. I added the the list of province and tax rate at the smith-tax table without adding the county and zip code. I'm wondering how did you able to find a solution.

Hi Alaa,
I am not using the smith-tax table, I have switched to "Flat Tax All Orders" option. I think I almost figured out by entering the Canadian provinces, but still it showed the tax wrong before they chose their province, as I mentioned in my last post: "It looks like is applying the corresponding tax, but customers who visit our site for the first time, will not see the correct tax and total price on the Shopping Cart page (before the Step1) page."
