Hi, I am using DNN6 and Smith Cart 5.0 (I upgraded a few days ago after being told that V5.0 would fix my problem) however I am still getting error messages when trying to do the import. I have checked my xls file and changed some column headings having previously used one of your sample ones, but noticing now that the column headings have changed. I have tried with several of my own test xls file and also 3 of the ones from this forum but have had no success at all.
The error message I am now getting is Product import Error Items
I cannot see anywhere that there should be a column heading of Items so have no idea what this means.
I really need this import to work as we have over 800 items and over 100 categories and it will take too long to input them all manually.
Please help, I am getting so very frustrated, it is a month since I bought this module and have nothing to show for it and my client is getting impatient.
I am trying to attach my xls file which is currently closed, but get this message : An error has occurred. Error: is currently unavailable.

Same issue here. Here's what I've found so far. The sample spreadsheet has the "Items" field after the "Price Units" field. The smithshoppingcartmanual_5.00 does not show this field. I added the field, but the site seems to hang upon importing 2 test products. After recycling the site, it appears that the products have been imported. Another problem that I notice is that the Category Name does not display in the Manage Products table. Inspecting the Product does show that the Category has been loaded correctly.

Hi Mike, thank you so much for your reply. I added the "Items" field but then get another error: Product import Error Categories - I have had this error before and tried everything to resolve this. Still waiting for a reply from the Smith Cart people and I have asked for a sample spreadsheet with all the fields for V5.0. Glynis

Hello,
It seems the link referencing the latest sample spreadsheet in the Manual was incorrect and I have now updated it. You can find an up to date sample spreadsheet for SmithCart v.5.0 at the following post: https://www.smith-consulting.com/Foru...
Thanks,

Closer. The CategoryID still does not import. If you view the record of a newly imported Product, the Smith_Products table shows the CategoryID as NULL. Selecting the same product from the products table within the Admin menu and navigating to the Categories tab shows the expected Category checkbox selected. Saving the record at this point does update the record in the DB as expected.

Hi Kevin, I had realised the link was incorrect and used the fields from the V5.0 manual but still had the problems. The spreadsheet i most recently tried to import had the exact fields as you quote but still I got an error message. Any ideas?

Hi Mike, I have tried the import with items in the Categories field and with this field blank but get the same error message! There must be something going on here!

Hi Kevin, Thanks for the link, I downloaded the sample xls from there and tried to import it without making any changes, but still get the error message: Product import Error CategoryDescription
Can this possibly be a problem with the cart settings? Now that I see that even your xls file will not import I know that the problem is not with my file.

Okay, now I have deleted the text from the Categories column and got the message: Products imported successfully
But the sample products are not showing in the cart.

Update: I have successfully managed to import some products! Still working on the categories - tried what Mike suggested but not had any luck yet!

Hi Mike,
You can find the CategoryID and associated ProductIDs located in the Smith_CategoryProduct table.
Thanks,

Hi Glynis,
Glad to hear you were able to successfully import your Products. Could you please explain the trouble you are having with the Categories?
Thanks,

Hi Kevin
The problem is a bit difficult to explain. My categories were in the spreadsheet as your example - cat1~subcat~subcat2;cat2 - but when I did the import some of the categories were correct, others were not. I have checked through my xls file and can't see the problem, but I will be able to adjust the categories manually through the Cart Admin. Thanks for your help
Glynis
