Hello again my Smith Cart Friends.

I remember reading somewhere in the Smith Cart Online manual that the /default.aspx portion of a products URL is supposed to be removed after URL keywords have been added to the products SEO tag.

Is this true? There must be something I am missing, as all my product URL's still contain the /default.aspx ending tag.

This does not seem to be the case for any product in my store. Can you verify that adding URL keywords should remove the default.aspx extenstion?

"Default.aspx – When you navigate to your product detail page if you see default.aspx as the page name its because you have not configured the page name for your products in the cart. To configure your product page names in the cart do the following:

1. Log in to your dnn portal as a store admin
2. Navigate to the store admin menu
3. Click on the manage product button
4. Select the product you want to edit
5. Click on the "SEO Tags" button on the top menu.
6. Enter the desired page name in the "URL Keywords" field"

Hi Alex,
In the Smith Cart product setup screen populating the "URL Keywords" field does not remove the page name from your URL, but will replace the default.aspx with the value you enter.  For example, in our store we entered "DNNShoppingCart" as the URL keyword for the SmithCart module and as you can see in our live store the resulting URL is as follows:

https://www.smith-consulting.com/pd/P...

If you want to completely remove the page name or the aspx extension you will need to use the iFinity URLMaster module or configure your IIS with some URL rewriting rules.

Hi Scott,

Sorry if I was not clear.

I was not looking to remove the page name or the .aspx extension. I simply want to remove the "/default" portion, like the products in your example.

I have added URL keywords to every product in my store, and every single product still has "/Default" in it's URL. Examples below:
https://www.yandasmusic.com/S/tabid/406/ProductID/2706/Roland-RD700NX-88-Key-Professional-Stage-Digital-Piano/Default.aspx

https://www.yandasmusic.com/I/tabid/395/ProductID/1950/Ibanez-Tube-Screamer-TSA15/Default.aspx

Hi Alex,
We use the iFinity URL Master module on our live site to achieve the sexy urls. I know you can do it with IIS URL rewriting rules but its some work to implement. The iFinity URL Master module is only $120 and worth every penny for the SEO benefits.

Here's the link:

Thanks for the reply. I have looked into iFinity, and I am testing it on my temp site.

I spoke with the iFinity team, and they informed me that to achieve the "sexiest" URLS (https://www.yandasmusic.com/Ibanez-Tube-Screamer-TSA15)
I would need to write a custom URL provider module for iFinity. Have you guys developed one? If so, can you share the love?

Thanks!

Hi Alex,
We have not developed a custom URL provider for the cart using the iFinity URL master module yet but if you use the ifinity url master module out of the box with the cart you are able to achieve SEO friendly URLs that can achieve #1 rankings on google and the rest of the search engines. As an example, if you google "DNN Cart" or "DotNetNuke Shopping Cart", etc, etc you will see that we are number one on google for those search terms. That being said we will add the ifinity custom url provider to our dev list and try to schedule it in to programming when we have a programmer on the bench. In the meantime if you want to tackle writing the custom ifinity url provider there is a starter project template available at http://www.ifinity.com.au/Products/Free_Downloads - you can also download the blog provider source code as well, to get an idea of how it is put together.

thanks,
