Hi All

Don't seem to be able to work out if this is possible or not.

Customer wants to apply a fixed freight charge for sales outside the local metropolitan area and freight free within that area.  They only have a couple of products they want to apply this to at this stage.  What's the best way to achieve this?

Should I enter the free freight for the metropolitan area (a few dozen) or the fixed freight for outside the metro area (few hundred)  How then do I apply this to the products that require it?  (An idea for a future feature might be to allow ranges in the postal code field)

Any assistance would be appreciated.
Ian

Hi Ian,

Which version of the Cart and DNN are you currently running?

The Cart currently supports a feature called Shipping by zip code/postal code which allows you to configure shipping costs in the following ways:

Fixed shipping costs by country and “ship to” zip code/postal code.
Fixed shipping costs by shipping method, country and “ship to” zip code/postal code.
Fixed shipping costs by product category, country and “ship to” zip code/postal code.

You can find more info on this shipping method and configurations instructions on Pg. 189 of the SmithCart User's Guide - Click Here

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Sorry it was SC 5.0 and DNN 6.1.2

I had looked up the manual.  I guess what isn't very clear is the best way to approach it.  Do I have a standard $10 shipping charge on a category and then a fixed $0 for the post codes in the metro area (approx 130) for that category?  The other way would be too time consuming to enter 1000's of individual postcodes.  This is where ranges or wildcards might help?

Hi Ian,

I'm not quite sure that I follow your question.

If you would like to charge a Shipping Rate for sales outside the local metropolitan area and freight free within that area you will need to enter each of the zip codes you wish to apply the rate to.

To apply this rate only to specific Products, you will need to add each Product to the same Category then when setting up your shipping zip codes, select the Category you wish to apply the rate to from the Category dropdown.

Currently the ability to set zip code ranges or wildcards isn't supported but I do see where it could be useful. If your your company has budget to sponsor a portion of the programming of the enhancement, we can provide you with a fixed quote to move this enhancement into development by submitting a Quote Request at the following link: http://www.smith-consulting.com/servi...

Hope this helps!
