I'm trying to change my product descriptions around by using the Import / Export tool. I exported the data then changed the descriptions. When I go to import the data, it says it imported successfully but nothing has changed. What am I doing wrong?

Did you check the descriptions in your database? If your trying to view using the browser maybe the descriptions are cached. Also, check your DNN event viewer for any import errors.

Hi Scott,
Thanks for responding. I looked at the database and the descriptions are not being updated. There is no error in the event log. It says it processed fine, but again, nothing happened. I'm wondering if it's looking for something specific and not finding it, so then not updating the record? Again, just exported the product list, changed the descriptions, and imported. But nothing changes? Weird. Anything else I can try?

The product import program does a lookup on sku to determine if there is a match for an update. Do your products have variants?

Hi Scott,
No variants. This is a pretty straight forward item list. If you'd like, I can send you the file, and you can login and try to import it yourself and see if you notice anything awry. There really isn't anything that I can see that would cause a problem.

Hi Kevin,
It's most likely an issue with your data that needs some analysis to pinpoint the exact cause of the issue. We can definitely help you out with your import and go thru your import xls to try and find the bad data and also login to your site and do some troubleshooting and testing. Kevin -
I made a lovely compilation of all the bugs/tweaks with smith cart import here:

See if your issue resolves around the issues I reported today. These are only a few of the issues that I have found.

Hi Alex,
Thank for your input. We are currently working with this customer and have determined that the issue was caused by exporting data from Mas200, to an excel sheet, then into Access, then back to excel and has caused data corruption and special characters to be inserted. We are in the process of helping to clean the import xls data to try and eliminate the bad data so the import works properly.
Thanks
