Hey guys!

I was wondering if it was at all supported to import product categories, via the Spreadsheet product import function, by referencing the category ID number instead of the Category Name. Some names can get rather long, and importing by names invites a number of misspelling opportunities which can throw off my categories.

example would be:

Wireless Microphone Systems~Headset Wireless Systems~Cardioid Conderser Element

to

1~2~3

Just a thought.

Hi Alex,
Importing product categories, via the Spreadsheet product import function, by referencing the category ID number instead of the Category Name is currently not supported. The reason is that a majority of the time people are importing data from another system and dont have the SmithCart categoryid, only the category name from the 3rd party system they are importing from.

Makes sense. It would be a verrrrry slick feature to have in the future for store's like mine where I have to manage all my inventory updates with the import feature.

That is a great suggestion and I could see how it would be useful. I recommend adding your request to our Enhancement Request forum in case another user would like to team-up with you on this enhancement, or if your company has budget to sponsor a feature let us know, in most cases we can start work on the new feature within a week.
