using SC v5.54 on latest DNN 7.1 (now with built in friendly URL support out of the box) - I am unable to get friendly URLS to work for SC products and categories although I've entered them under SEO keyword settings as well as made sure the friendly URL provider is active. I consulted other forum posts as well as the instructions for friendly URLs.

Please advise if anyone else has this working under DNN 7.1 and if you had to change any settings.

URL Master is now pretty much rolled into DNN as I understand it, so I don't see the point to license it for this trivial need.

For category pages, if you use any of the "checkbox" or "list" category menu layout's, you wont ever see a category url. I'm assuming this is due to the fact that a user can select multiple checkboxes to be displayed, and you can't have url keywords combine for two categories.

If you want URL keywords or category descriptions on your category pages, your only options are Tree View Style 1 or 2.

As for the product pages, having friendly url's enabled or not should have no effect on your product URL keywords being added to product page URL's. If you are not seeing your product URL keywords in the address on your product pages, then there is something a muk.

An easy way to know whether or not your keywords are being loaded by SmithCart is to look at a category listing of products. Hover over or firebug inspect a link to a product, and see if the link URL that is displayed contains your keywords:

If the URL link to the product does not contain your specified URL keywords, then it is most likely some sort of Smith Cart configuration you have not set up quite right.

If the URL link contains your keywords, but clicking that same link and actually loading the page does not, then your friendly URL settings are too friendly, and you are somehow forwarding that link to a version of the page that does not contain the url keywords. That's more of a DNN issue than a smith cart issue.

Thanks for the reply Alex

When I look at my pages I only see /ProductID/1 in the url not any of the keywords I try. I tried many times, and I am just adding a simple one letter work under "SEO Tags, URL Keywords:"

Am I missing something else I need to configure?

Just fyi - I'm not a Smith guy - just another user.

As far as I know, the only configuration that need be done is to add the keywords to the "URL Keywords" field under the "SEO Tags" menu when editing a product. That's how it works for my store.

The tooltip eludes that you must have friendly URL settings configured for it to work. So it sounds to me like this is most likely the issue. If you are not using iFinity, do a google search for "DNN Friendly URL Provider", and see if there is something in the configuration that is not working. Most likely a simple checkbox. Also, with the integration of iFinity into DNN with 7.1, I would not be surprised if this somehow messed up Smith's code to add these URLs.

Try entering a real word instead of one letter in the SEO Keyword field.

Alex is correct, entering SEO keywords is the only configuration needed in Smith Cart.

Also, you can check the following items in your environment that may be effectingthe  friendly URL setup in your portal:
  • Check your IIS friendly URL setup.
  • Check your friendly URL setup in your Web.config
  • Check your friendly URL setup in DNN
  • Check your DNN portal for any other friendly URL DNN modules
