I confirmed this with prgramming that the variant help url is only programmed for the dropdown list control type. We will be extending the help url feature to the other variant control types radiobuttons, checkoxes, etc in the next release 3.04.
This did not make it into v3.04 we will try to get it into the next release.

Last time I checked, it was only visible for variants in a dropdown menu...

Does this also work for text boxes and check boxes now?
In the latest release of the cart v3.86 the variant help url is only availible for the dropdownlist and radiobuttonlist controls. I can confirm that in the next release v3.87 the variant help url will be availible for all variant control types including the checkbox and textbox controls.
