I have checked around here and couldn't seem to find an answer, I was just wondering how to go about activating two licenses on one DNN install using multiple portals. Each portal would require its own independent cart. The instructions state to just put them in the DNN root folder, but that just warns me about overwriting the existing key.

Thanks,
Jim

If you have licenses for each portal, put the later license key in there. Both portals are in there.

The licenses are domain-centric... so if you have mystore1.mydomain.com and mystore2.mydomain.com then you only need one license.

If you have mystore1.com and mystore2.com, you need two licenses.

The latest license file that you received from Dave will cover both domains; just over-write the old one.

Actually if you already have one cart licensed and then purchase a second license a later date for a different domain name running in the same dnn install we need to regenerate the second license to include both domain names. When you request a second license in this scenario you will need to include both domains (new and old) to license when you fill out the license request.

After reading the above thread, I have a question regarding the licensing - on the sales page it states

Multi Portal:

  • Ability to run multiple carts within a single DNN install

I understand this to mean that my single license will allow me to use smith cart in ALL portals created within my single DNN install.

So, say I have site 1 in my portal being www.abc.com and then I have a second portal (site 2) within the same DNN install being www.xyz.com, do I have to purchase another license (ie. spend another $199.95) for site 2 or must I just request an update to the license to accommodate both domains ?

Please advise on the above.

On the shopping cart feature list page it lists "Ability to run multiple carts within a single DNN install" which means that the cart uses portalid in all the sql tables and queries and is technically capable of running multiple unique stores in a single dnn install. The licensing of the cart is per domain name https://www.smith-consulting.com/forums/licensingandupgrades.aspx

The license logic validates the primary domain name in the url giving you the ability to setup and run the module on multiple sub domains for your domain name. For example, if your live domain name is mywebsite.com then you are able to use the module on the following domain names:

  • mywebsite.somedomain.com
  • www.mywebsite.com.
  • mywebsite.com
  • test.mywebsite.com
  • etc, etc.

This will allow you to use the same license file for your test domain and your live domain. In the scenario you described with 2 different primary domain names you would need to purchase a second license.
