Inventory control is one of the features I need on my site. It is definately working when I set up inventory on a product basis. However, it doesn't seem to be working when I try to do inventory on a product-variant basis.

For example, I would like to set up a widget product and then widget-black and widget-blue variants. I would put in that I have 10 widget-black available and 10 widget-blue available and then inventory control would be based on sales of the variants instead of the product. Does smithcart support this? Thanks.

See the following forum post regarding variant qty on hands:

http://www.smith-consulting.com/forums/forumid/1/threadid/3254/scope/posts.aspx

We have had several meetings on this internally and we can implement decrementing the qty on hand in the variant table and it work when you have only one variant defined for a product. But when you have multiple variants defined for a product decrementing the qty on hand for each variant doesnt work with the current table structure. Right now the variant qty on hand is in the variant table and when you have more than one variant for a product you need to be able to assign qty on hand for variant combinations like the large blue shirt. This requires another table to be created where you can associate a qty on hand with multiple variants. It in the roadmap but not a small change.

understood on the complexity. sounds like the reasonable course of action for now is to define a product for each item that must be tracked separately. thanks.
