In the category management screen if you setup your categories with the "URL Keyword" populated you can use the categoryid in the querystring simiar to this post http://www.smith-consulting.com/forums/forumid/13/threadid/3577/scope/posts.aspx

The session object "tvCatMenuSelected" is populated with the currently selected node from the category module.
