Is there a way to prevent a category from showing up in the "Search" drop down?

What page are you referring to?

The page that is governed by the ProductList.ascx. It's the first page of the cart. I have a list of services that I don't want to appear in the cart so I deactivated them all but the category that I was required to assign to them still appears in the drop down.

I was able to remove it using some javascript but I was just wondering if there was another way.

All categories show up in the search dropdown on the product listing page. Categories to not have the deactivate flag like products do so you cannot deactivate a category. If you have products associated with the categories you dont want to display in the dropdown your only option would be to set the product to another category and delete the categories you dont want to show up in the dropdown.
