We are running the cart version 3.88. I can't upgrade because it is in DNN 4. We are using paypal payments standards. However, when a user completes an order, we don't get the email about the order unless that user clicks the return to merchant button. Since they user doesn't always click that, we need to be able to get the email anyways. Is there a way I can set that up?

In the scenario you described the customer will receive an email confirmation from paypal but not from the cart. If you are using paypal standard the cart sends an email when the customer is returned to your site if the cart sent the email before the customer went to paypal they could get the email confirmation if they never completed the transaction at paypal and paid.

I understand that, that could happen, however you should still be able to send an email, whether or not the user comes back to the site. Paypal sends that information back to a specified url if you tell it to on your request. You can still see whether or not the payment gets processed and then fire an email. I know simply because I have done it!

Paypal can send a notification back to the cart if you are integrated with Paypals instant payment notifcation (API). Currently, the cart is not integrated with the paypal ipn service and relies on the the user returning to the cart to launch the cart email confirmation.

ght

Might be something you want to look into. It would be a nice feature and integrating with thier IPN is not really that hard.

I just want to add that this feature would be great... On my prior website (using Wordpress) our shopping cart (WP ecommerce Gold Cart) had API for PayPay Payments Pro, and that was the payments gateway we used. I was slightly dissapointed to see that we couldn't use the API and had to use PayPal Standard instead.

SmithCart does support PayPal Website Payments Pro. The following paypal gateways are currently supported in SmithCart:

  • Paypal Website Payments Standard
  • Paypal Website Payments Pro
  • Paypal Payflow Pro

I think RBandelin was confused about the difference between the IPN and Paypal Pro.
