I have set the Quantity on Hand to 0 for a product and been able to order.

Also set the quantity on hand to 1000 and ordered 1500 and the cart did not stop the order.

I have ordered the product and the quantity on hand has not decreased.

I have set the "Show Sold Out Message: " to true. Never shows up.

So what am I doing wrong? or is this a huge bug in functionality?

Just tested your issue on the www7. test portal and didn't have a problem. under your buy now setting do you have the "enable inventory managment box checked?

I am having the same problem as well, in both  4.28 or 4.31. I have ‘enable inventory management’ and ‘show sold out message’ checked. My products have variants. When I have quantities in the variants and none in the ‘parent product’; it shows a sold out message (It will still process the check out). The opposite is true also (if I have quantity in the parent product and none in the variant it won’t show sold out).

The product Inventory seems to work as expected in our www9 test portal. But I may not have the same configuration as you. Would it be possible for you to login to www9.smith-consulting.com to replicate the issue. Send an email to kevin@smith-consulting.com if you need login credentials.
