We are under a maintenance plan for 1 year for Smith Cart and were promised new updates for Smith Cart during this time. However I noticed the following trend in which new fucntionlity is being broke out se we have to invest in these new features.   The new Address Book this costs money so every new feature you release we would have to purchase it including the new search for the cart.   It seems like maintenance is now just for bug fixes and not new functionality.  This seems to go against what was promised originally.   I would not promise new features in the Cart unless you start stating its going to cost to get them so there is no false expectations.

Hi Jon,

Actually a majority of the new features that we release are included in the cart at no additional cost.  Here are just a few of the features that you get at no cost for being on the maintanance plan:

  • Google ecommerce analytics (Google checkout coming soon)
  • Authorize.Net SIM Payment Gateway Integration - Hosted payment page for merchants who do not have SSL.
  • 2 new management reports off the reports menu
  • New product dimension fields; width, height and length
  • New tax features; tax by zip code and tax exempt for multiple roles
  • Bill Me Later for multiple roles
  • My Accounts module enhancements inclusing a "Pay Now" feature
  • New manufacturer fields and the ability to email manufacturers on successful order
  • New Ship Orders Management screen with pick ticket report and pick ticket email
  • New email template management features
  • Australia Post DRC integration for real time shipping rates.
  • etc, etc

We had alot of internal discussion about weather or not to include the new address book and search modules as standard or premium modules and decided to make the new modules premium modules at a nominal cost of $49.  A few of the reasons we decided to make the new address book and search modules premium are as follows: 

  • The cart already includes 7 standard modules with a ton of functionality which we think is fairly priced at 199
  • Continue to provide top notch support - the support costs for an ecommerce system in dnn are pretty high given the complexities of payment gateways, operational processes involved, implementation with the dnn framework, etc.  Although we have a thorough users manual and there is alot of info in the forum there is still alot of training and support that customers need to implement a shopping cart and understand all the features.
  • Continue the development of new features and functionality and provide quick turnaround on bug fixes.

The Quick Order Entry was included in prior versions with the base cart but I see we have to buy this.  So buy upgrading to the latest version we lost some functionality.

I also think that saving address information should be basic cart features. I think it would be easier if you just sold everything together.

Include the Search and address book for $300.00

So if we buy the address book how does maintenance work on it? Do we have to buy that separately or is that included in the cart maintenance we already purchased.  Maybe I'm missing something but I do not see the address book available to buy anymore.

If you purchased a cart license that included the QOE module and upgrade we will honor it and include a license for QOE free so you dont lose functionality.

From the manage order detail screen you have the ability to fully manage customers so having the address book module does not add any functionality. The purpose of the address book module is for buyers, purchasing managers, customer service reps taking phone orders or any other person who frequently buys items for other customers it allows a buyer to be logged in with a buyer account and select a customer automatically retrieving the customer profile to make purchases on behalf of the customer saving data entry time so the buyer doesn't have to enter all the customer information. If you buy a license for the address book module there is no additional cost for the maintenance plan and the address book is included as a download for maintenance plan customers. We appreciate your feedback regarding how to price the module but we felt it was better to keep the base cart module at a lower cost 199 rather than raising the price to 300 and including the qoe, search and address book modules aren't required to deploy a store.
