When we upgraded our version of AjaxControlToolkit from version 1.0.20229.20821 to 3.0.30930.0 to support Smith Cart, it blew up several of our other critical DNN modules. As you know, we can only run one version of the dll and the various modules on the market use different version. Most modules on the market are using version 1.0.20229. I've worked with the other module vendors trying to work around this problem so their modules will work on our server again using this .Net 3.5 version of the dll. The most promising effort was to insert a bindingRedirect statement in our web.config file such as the following:
<dependentAssembly>
<assemblyIdentity name="AjaxControlToolkit" publicKeyToken="28f01b0e84b6d53e" />
<bindingRedirect oldVersion="1.0.20229.20821" newVersion="3.0.30930.0" />
</dependentAssembly>
But, this causes other problems for other modules. Countless efforts in recent weeks have all proven futile. Nothing has allowed us to work past this issue and get all our modules to work. We are approaching a huge deadline in less than 2 weeks to launch 4 related sites for our largest client. They require such modules as Engage: Publish, Active Social, Active Forums, NavXP, XMOD Pro, and others that use version 1.0.20229 of the AjaxControlToolkit.
At this point, we are completely stuck. We don't really have time to switch carts at this point and start from scrath with a cart that won't conflict with other modules but I don't see any other options at this point unless you have a suggestion.
Thanks, John

I run Active Social and Active Forums in conjuncton with Smith Cart on my sites and haven't noticed any problems so far with the AjaxControlToolkit.

We also are able to run both versions of the ajax toolkit on the same site. The ajax control toolkit v1 and v3.5 can run together on the same site see the following forum posts:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/20....
http://aspalliance.com/1397_ASPNET_AJ...
Its possible that the Engage module was not compiled with a reference to the ajax toolkit they used so their module doesnt know which one to use. Can you ask Engage that question.

What version of the dot net framework are you running?

Thanks for the references. I'll look into the ability to run multiple versions. I've been working with Engage for some time trying to resolve the issue and so I posted here in an effort to try to find other solutions they haven't been able to find.
I'm running DotNet 3.5 SP1.
Thanks again, John

I found a solution to this problem after working with the Engage technical team. In case anyone runs into this same issue in the future and finds this thread, in order to resolve this version compatbility conflict issue you need to add the following section of code in web.config file in the assemblyBinding section:
<dependentAssembly>
<assemblyIdentity name="AjaxControlToolkit" publicKeyToken="28f01b0e84b6d53e" />
<bindingRedirect oldVersion="1.0.20229.20821" newVersion="3.0.30930.28736" />
</dependentAssembly>
Thanks for the help,
John

I have not upgraded by Ajax Control Toolkit, is that the reason why the store will not allow me to ADD PRODUCTS?
I just installed this module on www.japanbases.com
I tried added in the <dependentAssembly> but that did not work.
Am I going to have to upgrade my AjaxToolkit in order for SmithCart to work correctly?
This is the error I am receiving:

The add products screen has the ajax tab control that allows you to enter product descriptions for the 5 tabs displayed on the product detail page. Since the add products screen has the ajax tab control the ajax error you posted is preventing the add products screen from loading. Are you still getting this error? If so, what version of the dot net framework are you running?
At your service,
Dave Smith

In order to get this to work for me, I had to use the following in my web.config:
<
<
dependentAssembly>assemblyIdentity name="System.Web.Extensions"
publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35"
<
culture="neutral" />bindingRedirect oldVersion="1.0.61025.0"
</
newVersion="3.5.0.0"/>dependentAssembly>
Thanks to the link above to Stack Overflow
Jeff.

The error message you posted says that it couldnt find the ajax dll. Try upgrading your ajax to version 3.5 or copy the ajax dll in the zip file that came with the cart to your \bin folder and reset iis.

Thanks. We found that putting the exact .dll into the \bin\ folder worked fine.
This probably indicates that in the project you have ticked the option to reference a specific version, rather than leave it as "No". This would then allow later versions of the AjaxControlToolkit.dll to work against your module.
Migh cause less problems in the future.
Oh,, and not sure why the correct file never copied into the \bin\ directory. No error thrown, and the version that was already was an earlier version.
