Images  Modified By Dennis Taylor on 11/3/2011 11:43:38 AM

Is the smith cart capable of creating thumbnails, resize and keep aspect ratio for images  during upload? We have some images that are longer or smaller. These do not layout nicely in the display grid. We currently using the fixed width and height to keep it consistent, but it either stretches or distorts the images and it does not look good.

Hello,

The difference is the regular size image is just a staight upload using the asp file upload control and the thumbnail is dynamically resized in memory and saved using c# code.

The thumbnail is dynamically resized in memory and saved when images are uploaded with a product. To resize your thumbnail image on the ProductList page open up the thumbnail folder located in the /DesktopModules/Smith.BuyNow/images, open the image in your image editor and resize the image then save it back to the same folder.

Thanks,

That would work for developers, but not for end users. They wouldn't have access to the module and most wouldn't know how to resize the image properly. Would this be an enhancement if it is not possible now?

I was just about to post this request as well. The large image is resized and overwritten but not the thumbnail. This leads to image mismatches when we change product photos.

Wow. I thought I was having a deja vu moment, then I looked back at an earlier post. Turns out this was fixed in version (4.45) but the bug must have crept back in.

DWS,

The cart uses the 2 fields "Thumbnail Width" and "Thumbnail Height" settings in the Cart Settings under the Product Listing Setup section to size the thumbs when you upload your images using the product setup screen. If you want the cart to regenerate the thumbnail for an image you will need to re-upload the image to replace the image.

To resize your thumbnail image on the ProductList page open up the thumbnail folder located in the /DesktopModules/Smith.BuyNow/images, open the image in your image editor and resize the image then save it back to the same folder.

As far as thumbnail sizes are concerned, do a quick google for "Image Resize Powertoy". It allows you to select multiple images, right-click, and "Resize".

Ted,

Which version of the Cart are you currently running? Are you uploading a different image through the Product Setup screen?

Thanks,
