I'm on DNN 6.2.4 and recently updated to Smith Cart 5.22.  I was getting complains from my clients that their stores were not showing real-time shipping calculations in the "Ship Method" drop down box after clicking the "Calculate Shipping" button during checkout.  The drop down box that is supposed to have the shipping costs for the various shipping methods was empty.  Both sites are configured to use FedEx shipping and this was preventing users from checking out.

I battled with this all day to no avail.  THEN.. I clicked the "Test Mode" checkbox in the Shipping settings of the Buy Now module.  Real time shipping calculations now appear to be working correctly and customers can check out again.  Any idea why this is?

In your buynow module settings shipping section did you enter your fedex credentials? If so, can you confirm with fedex that your fedex credentials are active live working credentials for the rate service?

We are not using any FedEx credentials in any of the sites.  Still, when "Test Mode" is unchecked, the real-time FedEx shipping calculations do not work.

Appreciate any guidance.

Fedex recently changed their rate services requiring businesses to establish their own live FedEx account in order to use their live rate service. If you do not have a live FedEx account for your business you probably should contact fedex to create an account, its free. If you do not want to do this, you can use the built in cart fedex test account but requires the test mode checkbox to be checked. The fedex test rate services returns the same rates but the availability may not be as good as hitting their live servers and also you wont be able to get any negotiated rates if you dont have a live fedex account.
