Hello -

I'm currently trying to import some products into my store using the excel spreadsheet import feature by smith cart. I've been running into a bug with the import, and I think I have found the cause.

I'll try my best to explain this, I'm still trying to understand it myself.
So, the import spreadsheet has 5 tabs available for import. Each tab has a tab name and description field.

I have found that in any tab's "description" field you can either just put simple text data, or html data, not both.

Example. I have two products. Both of them use the first tab, and have html data in their first tab "description" field.
The second product uses the second tab, the first product does not use it's second tab. Because only one of them is using the second tab, them HTML data in that second tab is corrupted, and not imported properly.

When dummy HTML information is inserted into the second tab on the first product, the import successfully imports the data.

Hopefully that made sense. Because of this limitation, I am forced to either used the second tab on all the products in that spreadsheet, or not at all. I could break up the products into different spreadsheets, and do two imports - one with products only using one tab, and the second with products using two tabs. However, I'm sure that I'm not the only user who will run into this issue, so I wanted to bring it to your attention.

I have not confirmed this, but I'm guessing this has something to do with why my product export looks all crazy.

After further testing, I have noticed another strange behavior of the product import feature. Hopefully I can explain this as well.

I have two products. Product one and product two. Product one uses two tabs, product two uses three. Lets name the tabs for consistancy.
Tab1=Description, Tab2=Specifations, Tab3=Facebook

Both products one and two have values in their description and facebook tabs. However, only product two uses the specification tab. This causes a very strage behavior upon import for product one.

Product one displays it's two tabs properly, but product two shows the following information in it's three tabs.

TabDescription = correct
TabSpecifications = Shows data from tab Facebook
TabFacebook = Shows no data.

It would seem that because product one only used two tabs, it corrupted how product 2's data was imported.

I hope this helps, and makes sense. These querks can very quickly and easily destroy product imports and exports.

I guess the whole point of this thread is to point out that it is impossible to import products with varying tab information. They all must use a second or third tab, or none of them can.

I can place dummy html in products that do not use the tab, so that the rest of them can import. This however produces blank tabs on those products, which is not ideal at all.

I tried some small imports to test, and the import works properly, even though there is varying tab data.

Is it possible it has something to do with the HTML data inside these cells?
