I am in the process of setting up my first cart using the smith-cart and have a question. Here is a scenario

I have a product that comes in 2 sizes. 3oz for $3 and 6oz bag for $7. I set up the main item to carry the price of the 3oz item. I then created 2 varients a 3oz varient and a 6oz varient selectable via a dropdown. The 3oz varient has no cost difference and the 6oz has a $4 difference.

On the buy now page the product is visible with an option button that takes the customer to the detail page where the customer can select either a 3oz or 6oz size and then add it to the cart. When the item is added to the cart the customer is redirected to the cart page to checkout. I need the customer to stay on the detail page and just have the mini cart updated as they may want to add the 6oz size to the basket as well. This behavior exists on the buy now page when you do not have options.

The reason for the long explaination is 1. did I do it right setting up the products this way and 2. can the cart be configured to not redirect to the checkout.

Thanks

Carl

On the product details page when you click add to cart it adds the item to the cart and takes you to the cart page. In the cart admin settings under the product detail page setup section there is show mini cart on product detail page option checking that will display the mini cart on the product details page showing items in your cart but it doesnt change the behavior when you click add to cart from the product details page you are still taken to the cart page.

Thanks Scott

So then the only way around this is to create individual items without options so that when I select them from the buy now page it adds it to the mini cart and does not redirect to the checkout until checkout is clicked in the mini..

Not optimal but in my scenario, I can handle this. It would be nice to have a global setting that allowed you to turn off the redirect.

Thanks

Carl

Yes the way you described it sounds like a solution that will work for you since the cart does not have an option to turn off the redirect on the product detail page.
