I have been playing with shipping a bit and have not found a way to add the below scenario, any ideas?

We currently do all of our shipping by custom "Shipping by order amount" settings, and this works like a champ for us for our normal items we ship. One of the next things I have been asked to add to the online store is the ordering of large equiptment that requires freight. Basically I want the ability to be able to say Ship by order amount for all items, unless I have specified a shipping amount for a specific item (that would end up being one of our frieght items)

Any ideas or thoughts? (I try adding a per item cost, but it ignored it as I expected)
