Currently the Cart does not have the ability enter a different Tax Rate individually for each product, if you would like a quote for adding this feature, please send an email to sales@smith-consulting.com. Otherwise you have the following to options depending on your Tax Setup configuration:
Option 1 - YOu can enter the Unit Cost of the Product with the tax included and you can enable the Tax Exempt feature in the Product setup screen to prevent any addition tax from being applied.
Option 2 - You can enable the use of VAT/GST (Product Inclusive) tax selection in the Cart Settings under the Tax Setup section. When VAT/GST Tax is checked the cart will charge the tax rate entered in the “Tax Rate” textbox and implement the VAT/GST tax calculation. You will need to load all product pricing inclusive of VAT/GST tax.
Thanks,

It's a little strange an e-commerce system which doesn't allow the setting of various product rates.
In all European countries there are different rates on consumption, depending on the product category.
In Europe it is called VAT, in Canada, Australia and New Zealand is called GST (Goods and Services Tax), and in Latin America is called IVA.
In all these countries there are different rates per category, for example: 5% for milk and 20% for diamonds.
How is it possible that the Smith Cart does not allow configuring different types of rates?
Or I didn't notice right?
Having said that, how can charge money to put a basic function in any e-commerce solution, as is a table with different rates per store?!
Thanks,
Carlos.

Hi Carlos,
If you would like to offer separate Tax Rates for different categories, you could add additional BuyNow modules specific to each category.
After you add the BuyNow module to the page, when adding your category specific products there is the "Share products between catalogs" feature on the Product Setup page that can be enabled/disabled to share products between the BuyNow modules. You will want this feature to remain disabled.
When adding your Category in the Manage Categories screen in the Admin menu, you also have the ability to enable/disable the "Share" feature which controls if your Categories are shared between your BuyNow modules. Leaving the "Share" checkbox will keep your Category isolated to that BuyNow module.
Thanks,

Hi Kevin.
We alredy tried this solution, but what happens when the same customer wants to buy product from 2 or more categories? and one of those categories are from the other buynow module shared with the other buynow module.
I mean, I was thinking to have a "main" buynow module with the tax from most product. Is that the idea?
Then, we can have 2 more buynow module for the other taxes, for example.
These 2 more buynow modules share their categories.
Question 1: If we share the category but do not share the products from this category, we can't see the products from this category using the categorymenu module on the "main" buynow module. I mean, we can't see the products on the other buynow module that does not have the product from this category. We only can see the category. Is this correct?
Question 2: If the question 1 is correct, are you thinking do not use the categorymenu module and create the category menu manually to the respective categories pages? If yes, in this case, in each category we will enter in a different store. Correct?
Question 3: So, because of the question 1 and 2, I can't see how can we use different buynow modules and make a single order with the products and taxes added in those different buynow modules. Is it possible? It is what you explain us and I didn't understand how?
Thanks.

Hi Patricia,
When using the VAT/GST Tax option, you can enable the Prices Input Include VAT feature. When the “Prices Input Include VAT” checkbox is checked VAT will be calculated assuming your product prices have been entered inclusive of VAT. Product prices are entered from the product setup screen from the Smith Cart Store Admin Menu. When the “Prices Input Include VAT” checkbox is NOT checked VAT will be calculated product exclusive of VAT. Meaning the prices entered for your products do not include VAT.
Thanks,

There can be up to 3 VAT rates per country:
1. Normal (for consumer and luxury products) 2. Reduced (for basic food and consumer goods) 3. Exempt (usually for basic healthcare services and drugs).
As 99% of online stores will only require the normal rate, the current VAT implementation in the cart can handle this.
Support for different VAT rates at the product level is the second phase of the VAT implementation in the cart and has been added to the dev roadmap but has not been prioritized into programming yet.
At your service,
Dave Smith

Dave,
I cannot agree that 99% of online stores will only require the normal rate.
For example, inside European Union you can have THREE taxes in foodstuffs, beverages, agricultural inputs, etc, and TWO taxes in pharmaceutical products, medical equipment, books, newspapers, energy products, take away, flowers and plants, immovable property, construction, works of art, etc.
You can easily understand how the things going in Europe here: http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/resources/documents/taxation/vat/how_vat_works/rates/vat_rates_en.pdf
Too bad you don’t prioritized this issue. Two stores will go to another e-commerce solution and I’ll have a serious trouble with a client.
The BuyNow suggestion is time wasting and it's not a real solution.
I would never, but never, imagine that this store don't have different rates. With NBStore I can create 5 rates in 60 seconds.
Carlos.

So, SmithCart team, do you have any solution for us? I mean, in europe we have products with different taxes in the same category. How can we solve this, please?
We saw your new tax option for europe. Thanks. But it is not the solution for this situation.
Thanks

Hello,
Support for different VAT rates at the product level is the second phase of the VAT implementation in the cart and has been added to the dev roadmap but has not been prioritized into programming yet. If you would like to prioritize this feature into programming please do one of the following:
We quote all features enhancements below cost since it is enhancing the module, If your company has budget to sponsor a feature let us know, in most cases we can start work on the new feature within a week.
Thanks,
