Hi all,

Looking for advice here.

I've done a clean install of DNN 6.0.1 on a shared hosting server and all works well.

Next with Smith Cart 4.52 clean install, I'm going over the allocated RAM limit from my hosting environment when I use the cart, particularly in the admin back end, (allocated 150 MB, using approx 200 MB) and getting occasional "System Unavailable" application pool shut downs.

Does anyone have suggested hosting requirements for the above DNN and Smith-Cart install? I'm thinking of moving up to VPS with 1 GB of RAM or more if necessary. It used to run ok on DNN 5 and earlier cart versions.

Would appreciate comments from anyone regarding this advice.

For the most part, there is a slight increase with 6, especially while performing an upgrade. Otherwise it should be the same as previous DNN versions.

Does your memory footprint include SQL server?  100 MB should work with extra effort, 250-500 MB is a reasonable trade off, although you may need 2-4 GB to run DNN and SQL server on the same machine.

There is alot of background activity that goes on in DNN, especially event logging, indexing and individual module activity. Add vistor tracking and caching to the traffic and it becomes a science. The difficult part is to determine where the extra RAM being used.

Thanks for the pointers. I'll see how it goes moving from shared hosting with 150 MB RAM (unusable with DNN 6 and SC 4.52) to VPS with 1 GB (and SQL Server hosted separately).

Do you know how much memory would be recommended with SQL *Express* on the same server? Most forums posts I've seen discuss SQL Server and don't mention SQL Express much.
