Hi All,

Correct me if I'm wrong but is the only way to add a downloadable product to Smith in the followoing way:

  • Upload file to somedirectory
  • Determine the path based on http://yourdomain/portal/somenumber/somedirectory

If this is the case why not use the DNN framework to upload a file?

I'm looking at this from client support point of view. My client don't necessarily want to determine what the URL should be especially if the product is uploaded onto the website.

Everything else about this store is great. This feature is a little incomplete

Hi Paul,
Yes, the way you described adding your downloadable products is correct. The cart was originally programmed so you could just enter the relative url in the product setup screen as you described but it proved too restrictive because it limits you to only serving up your downloadable products within the portals folder of your dnn site. Many businesses have separate servers or sites they wish to serve up their downloadable products because they want to use a 3rd party program to secure their e-products (similar to our Gatekeeper Download Manager) , they have a dedicated ftp server or just for security/architecture reasons.. Relative urls are a little easier for data entry but not as flexible as allowing the full url to be entered.

Dave,

I agree with your logic for not not restricting where the downloadable files can reside

In saying that, for the non technical but enthusiastic administrators of a website who wish to upload files locally I believe an upload method will make life for service providers like myself much easier.

I would like to request this feature be added.

Paul.

Have you tried using the dnn file manager to upload your products?

Dave,

THe issue I have is the usability issue of referencing a local file. Take a look at the screen capture of the DNN links module. Pay attention to the highlighted regions.

To me this is a show stopper from some of my clients.

Paul.
