It would be nice to be able to see each product in the storefront once entered, while keeping it hidden from customer view.

This is important with new products. Although one can do it on a test server, it is double work to do so.

If there was a utility to synchornize test db tables with prod db tables (just the product and variants tables), that would solve this issue. The utility would be able to keep foreign keys etc in sync.
