i notice that the recurring billing drop down has 1-31 day options. what happens in february and leap years if, for example, i am using authorize.net arb, in february, leap years, and months having less than 31 days? has this behavior been tested under such circumstances?

I believe the setting you are referring to is the "Show Recurring Billling Start Date" option in the subscription and recurring billing setup section of the module settings. When you check "Show Recurring Billling Start Date" it allows the user to choose the start date that their recurring billing occurs it doesnt affect the ongoing recurring billing only the day to start the recurring billing.

so just to confirm: if a customer is making a recurring purchase on january 31 and and he chooses to begin billing on the 30th then what happens in february?

The recurring billing would start on Feb 28th.

does your software or authorize.net choose the 28th? if the former does it notify the customer that the actual bill date will be the 28th and not the 30th? when does it make that notification - at checkout time?

The confirmation email that is sent from our payment registration module does not include all the recurring billing parameters but the automated email from authorize.net does have that info.
