I'm running a trial of Smith Cart with a view to ossibly purchasing it and have been trying to work on the Shipping Costs. It seems that regardless of how I set the Shipping and Handling or the Shipping methods settings the cart always shows Shipping Type: Free.

What I am trying to do is set up two flat rate shipping costs - one for "U.S. and Canada" and a second for "Overseas" - I've set up Zones and custom shipping and none of it seems to have any effect.

I'm running DNN 6, SQL Server 8 and Smith Cart Trial (4.93?)

Hi Dave,

How do you have the Shipping and Handling Setup section of your Cart configured?

Do you have weights greater than "0" configured for your products?

I currently have the shipping and handling set to "custom ship methiods by quantity", I've also tried "Zone Shipping by Quantity" and "Zone Shipping By weight". I'm not sure about the weights on the products. Would that affect things even if I am using a "shipping by quantity" setting?

Just tried adding a weight. I know see the shipping details in the bottom of the cart - but with the configuration set to "Custom by quantity" there were no options available in the drop down (I have 2 configured custom shipping rates).

I changed the config to "Zone shipping by quantity" and it shows the 2 shipping options I have configured for zones. When I select one and press "Calculate Shipping" nothing appears to happen. If I click calculate again at this point I get an error saying I need to "Please enter a valid state/region and country."???

I just tried to configure a Shipping by Order Quantity entry and set it to:

Manage Shipping By Order Quantity

Zone: Overseas
Ship Method: Overseas
Product Category: All Categories
Order Quantity From: 1
Order Quantity To: 9999
Shipping Cost: 13.00

Again I get the same results.

Hi Dave,

I just tried to re-produce this issue on my test portal and was unable to recreate the same behavior but I may not have the exact same configuration as you. Can you login to our test site http://www21.smith-consulting.com/ and try to replicate this issue? This will determine if the issue is with the latest version of the cart or an issue with your specific dnn portal/cart install.

I did manage to get things working. It seems that you need to have both a weight and a size set to make it work. This despite having the settings configured to "Custom Method flat" so the weight/size of the item shouldn't even enter in to the picture.

Hi Dave,

When using the Custom Ship Methods with Fixed Amounts option, a product weight is required to display the Ship To, and Shipping Method fields on the Cart page as a product with a weight of "0" technically will not need to be shipped and therefore would not need select a Shipping Method. The reason the Cart has been programmed this way is some stores may be selling soft goods as well as physical products, so the Cart must be able to differentiate between products which need to be charged for shipping and those that do not The Product Dimensions however should not have any affect if you are using the Custom Ship Methods with Fixed Amounts.
