I just set up Smith-Cart with PayPal Website standard and I noticed a problem with the correct total not being passed to PayPal during the checkout process.  I have the cart set-up to charge sales tax and offer a member discount.  Although the correct total will be shown on the smith-cart checkout screen, when the customer is directed to PayPal for payment, the tax and discount are dropped.  The PayPal transaction will be for the for the pre-tax and no discount total.  The shipping charges are passed through but the tax and discount are not applied to the PayPal transaction.

Do you know what may be causing this?

Thanks.

Hi,

Just tested and I reproduced the problem (I use EU VAT regulations).

The tax are well displayed in the last Smith Cart checkout page, but not in the PayPal order summary page (and therefor the paid amount is not the right one).

In fact, the tax amount is "0.00" in the parameter named tax (and tax1 too) located in the URL used to access PayPal payment page: "...&tax=0.00&address_street=..."

Can you fix this problem ?

Thanks.

Which version of the Cart and DNN are you currently running?

In your Cart Settings in the Tax Setup section, which Tax method do you have selected?

Are you using Memeber Pricing at the Order Level or at the Product Level?

Thanks,

Hi Rico,

Are you using the "EU VAT regulations" or "EU VAT regulations by Product" Tax Method?

Are you also having an issue with Member Discounts?

Thanks,

I was using 4.99 but upgraded to 5.0 yesterday. I just placed a test order using 5.0 and now the tax is carried through to PayPal, but the member discount is not. I am using member pricing at the order level.

Thanks.

Hi Kevin and thanks for the answer.

The setting I use is 'Apply EU VAT Regulations' and I do not use the Member discount, so I cannot confirm the second problem.

Here are the step to help you 'see' the problem:

At the last checkout page :

The VAT (19.6%) value is 39.20€

Then I click on the 'SUBMIT ORDER' button, I am redirected to PayPal with the following URL - picked from the dnn event viewer (I have replaced sensitive information by '...') :

https://www.sandbox.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_cart&upload=1&business=...%40...&email=...%40...&currency_code=EUR&item_name_1=World&amount_1=200.00&quantity_1=1&tax_1=0.00&shipping_1=0.00&custom=24&image_url=...&return=...&cancel_return=...&first_name=test&last_name=test&address1=test&city=test&state=test&zip=test&country=FR

In the URL, we can see that tax_1 value is 0.00

And then the PayPal page displays :

If I change the tax_1 value (from 0.00 to 1.23 for example) in the URL, the PayPal page shows:

So I conclude that, when using EU VAT Regulations with PayPal Standard payments, the tax_1 value is not correctly set. Can you please fix this ?

Thanks.

Hi Kevin and many thanks for this exhaustive answer.

However, I think that the non-update of the VAT price is a bug and therefor should not be deferred after customer paid enhancement requests ; but I understand that you already have a long list of tasks you must do before fixing these problems.

Anyway, it is reassuring to know that the Smith Cart support is effective and reliable.

Hi SC support,

Tested with Dnn 6.2.4 and Smith Cart 5.22 and the tax problem still occurs. Again, the tax passed to PayPal (standard payments) is 0 in the URL (displayed in the event viewer).

About the other problems already mentioned (tested with the configuration described above):

No order emails sent when the user closes the page right after payment - In Programming
Not fixed

PayPal standard payment error with french culture - Fixed
Not fixed

Order marked as 'Paid' althought the paid amount is invalid - Resolved. Fix coming soon.
Not fixed

VAT tax always added in the Manage order detail admin page - Currently being researched.
Not fixed

Price including VAT not calculated immediately when adding a product - On Dev List, please see post for workaround
Not fixed

Changing a variant option does not update price with VAT - On Dev List
CANNOT TEST as an error occurs in the ProductDetail page when choosing the 'Apply EU VAT Regulations' with the 'Show prices with and without VAT included' options.

Hi Rico,

1. No order emails sent when the user closes the page right after payment - This issue was resolved with the implementation of PayPal IPN in the release of Cart v4.99

2. PayPal standard payment error with french culture - We just totally revamped the Checkout process for the PayPal gateways so that now each line-item(Shipping, Handling, Tax etc) is sent to the gateway. It is possible that the change which was implemented in the previous versions did not make it into this release. I will report this issue to our programming dept and will postback as soon as I can provide an update.

3. Order marked as 'Paid' althought the paid amount is invalid - This issue was resolved with the implementation of PayPal IPN in the release of Cart v4.99

4. VAT tax always added in the Manage order detail admin page - Currently this a limitation of the Cart when using the Apply EU VAT Regulations Tax method.

The Manage Order Details admin page was not programmed to call the VIES site and do the real time VAT number Validation and recalc the order with tax exemption after an order is already placed. If your company has budget to sponsor a portion of the development to program the ability you described we can provide you with a fixed quote by submitting a Quote Request at the following link: http://www.smith-consulting.com/servi...

5. Price including VAT not calculated immediately when adding a product - Currently this a limitation of the Cart when using the Apply EU VAT Regulations Tax method. Please see the following post for a workaround: http://www.smith-consulting.com/Forum...

6. Changing a variant option does not update price with VAT - Currently this a limitation of the Cart when using the Apply EU VAT Regulations Tax method. Please see the following post for a workaround: http://www.smith-consulting.com/Forum...

Thanks
