Version: 5.0.0 on DNN 5.6.0

The handling charge I have set in the cart settings is showing up in the checkout process, but not passing to PayPal.  Shipping charges, tax, and products pass to PayPal without issue.  What do I need to do to fix this?

Hello,

Which PayPal Gateway do you have configured for your store? It looks like in the release of 5.20 included a fix for PayPal Standard where the Handing fee was not being sent to PayPal.

Yes, we're using PayPal standard. Is 5.2 compatible with DNN 5.6?

Hello,

SmithCart version 5.20+ is not compatible with DNN 5. To run implement the fix in 5.20 for PayPal you have the following 2 options:

  1. Upgrade to DNN 6+
  2. Submit a quote request at the following link to provide you with a custom fix for SmithCart v.5.0: http://www.smith-consulting.com/servi...
Thanks

I purchased this module because the listing on the DNN Store says that it is compatible with DNN 5.x. I don't understand why I should have to pay for a fix to a bug in your software when it is advertised for the version I am running. Can you explain this to me so I can be more fully informed?

When we released SmithCart 5.20, we made a decision to focus all of our software development and maintenance efforts on support for the DNN 6 product line. We will no longer actively developing Cart versions compatible with DNN 5 through bug fixes or enhancements. There were many reasons for this decision; with the most obvious one being the fact that the entire platform had undergone a language conversion from VB.NET to C# in version 6.0 which made the task of sustaining the two platforms in parallel highly challenging from a technical perspective.

Hope this helps!

I understand the decision and the reason behind it.  However, I was lead to believe that this product was supported for my version of DNN by the product description on the DNN store, which states support for DNN versions 4.x, 5.x, and 6.x.  I would not have bought the product if I had known that the version for DNN 5.x had known bugs and would not be supported.  This has put my company in bind, since I purchased and installed the module for one of our clients, and they have the expectation that it should work (as do I).  Since it was sold with a clear marketing message of support for my version, I would ask that you honor this and fix this known bug in version 5.0 of the module.  I would also strongly recommend that you change your product listing to no longer claim support for DNN 4.x and 5.x or reverse your decision and continue to support the DNN versions you claim.

I understand your need for a solution but this issue isn't an incompatibility between SmithCart and DNN 5 or 4, it is an issue related to the specific configuration of your Cart when using PayPal Standard which was resolved in a later version and listed in the Change Log found Here: http://www.smith-consulting.com/Produ...

Every release of the cart has at least a couple bug fixes which is the nature of business for any software company and issues that have already been resolved in current builds cannot be easily patched in older versions and may require an upgrade to the latest build. Our support department cannot provide custom bug fixes for obsolete builds or customized deployments. If we used the logic of providing custom fixes for free when a bug was found in an older release then we would essentially be fixing all past releases of the module for free for every customer for a lifetime.

The cart comes with 3 months of free upgrades from the date of purchase which is in line with other module vendors. We ask that customers maintain an active cart maintenance plan so you will have access to cart downloads area throughout the year as needed and we release new versions of the cart frequently with bug fixes, security patches and new features which provides a level of protection for your ecommerce site.

In addition to upgrading your Cart to resolve this issue, it is also strongly recommended that you upgrade your DNN instance as there are certain hacker groups that are actively exploiting security vulnerabilities in old versions of CMS platforms such as websites running old versions of DotNetNuke.

Once a vulnerable website is compromised, it is then leveraged to launch network-based denial-of-service attacks. This causes significant grief for both website owners and hosting providers.

It is your responsibility to maintain the security of your website.

If you are running an old DotNetNuke 3.x/4.x/5.x website:
* Your website is vulnerable and may have already been compromised.
* Your website software is extremely old.
* You need to upgrade your site to a secure version as soon as possible

Hope this is helpful!

I understand your perspective in regards to the needing to limit how long a product is supported, and I would not expect you to continue to provide bug fixes for old DNN versions that you no longer support or beyond a reasonable amount of time beyond the sale.  That makes sense and is inline with norms in the DotNetNuke community.

However, based on the product listing for this product, I did not purchase a product that fits that description, and you have not yet addressed this fact. You clearly state in your DNN Store product listing that you support DNN 4.x, 5x., and 6.x with the current release for this product.  This is the situation under which my purchase was made.  As you stated above, you provide support for problems encountered with the product within a reasonable amount of time from purchase.  By including specific reference to DNN versions, you are setting the expectation that those versions will all be able to receive the same level of support. All I am asking for is that you support the product you sold under the expectation you set with your own product description -- a shopping cart that is supported for DNN 5.x.  I purchased the license in December 2012, so this is within a reasonable amount of time to make such a request.

Focusing on upgrading my client's site to a newer DNN version is a change of topic that does not address the situation at hand. They are valid points for a discussion about DNN upgrades, but are not valid for a discussion about honoring the commitments expressed in your product description.

That’s exactly why we offer 30 day trial versions so you can fly before you buy so you know exactly what you are getting and that it will be a good fit for the site you are building.

The issue you are experiencing, is not an incompatibility with DNN 5, it is a bug that existed in a previous release and was addressed in the release of v5.20.

The solution to resolve this issue would be a custom bug fix for v5.0 or to upgrade your site to the DNN 6 and upgrade your store to SmithCart v5.20+.

I apologize for the inconvenience and hope you understand our position on this.
