Hi Smith cart team,

I'm using smith cart 5.0 and DNN 6.0
I have a question regarding the SEO. My site is a live a live site. It is www.aaliyawoman.com

When i type "aaliyawoman" in google page, it shows the result. When I click more results, it shows each and every product name and 2 lines of description. The description which it is showing in the search results is coming from the 3rd tab (i.e wash care). I want to show the description for each and every product but not wash care guide lines. Please find the attached screen shot.
I have 3 tabs in the product detail page
1. 1st tab is "Info" tab
2. 2nd tab is "Description" tab
3. 3rd tab is "wash care" tab.

In the search results, it is showing the 2 lines of wash care guidelines but I want to show the description in the search results.

Thanks,
Swetha.

Did you enter your product SEO tags (title, description and keywords) in the product setup screen for each of your products?

Hi,

I entered product SEO tags(title, Description and Keywords) in the product setup screen for each of my products.

When I enter aaliyawoman in google, and when I click more results... its shows each and every product. But it is not showing the description for the product instead it is showing the text which I entered in the tabs while creating a new product. I want to show the product description.

Please help. Is there any settings that I missed? Also when I look into the page view source, it is showing the description in the meta tags. This description which is showing in the meta tags should show in the googlesearch results page for each of the product.

Thanks,
Swetha.

If you entered product SEO tags(title, Description and Keywords) in the product setup screen for each of your products you haven't missed any settings.

To confirm your seo meta tags are being set correctly, go to the product details page for one of your products and right click in your browser window and select "view source" and at the top of the page you should be able to see the meta description and keywords and title tag you setup for your product.

Exactly I did the same. But it is no reflecting in Google search engine.. It is showing the text which I entered in the Tabs. But I want the description for each of my product which I entered in the SEO tags.

Can you please take a look at my site once. This is a live site.

www.aaliyawoman.com
When I enter aaliyawoman in google... Its shows the result and click on more results and navigate to 2nd page. Their shows all my products and it is showing the text which I entered in tabs. Please take a look. I waited for this output to reflect in google almost 4 days.

Thanks,
Swetha.

I took a look at your site and did a view source on the product details page and the cart is setting the meta description tag correctly.  Why google is not displaying your meta description in the google search results is a good question.  The following are some reasons I can think of as to why google is not using your meta description:
  • The meta description you are configuring does not conform to the best practices for meta description outlined by google
  • The length of your meta description is too long or too short
  • Google is using your product description instead of your meta description because google spiders have determined that its better or more descriptive tham the meta description you have configured.
I recommend reading up on googles recommendations on meta tags and adjust accordingly and use googles webmaster tools to monitor your site.  SEO is an ongoing process and takes expretise and alot of work to get right.  Nobody knows googles exact algorithms for indexing sites but if you are attempting to SEO your site yourself you will need read up on googles best practices and SEO recommendations and invest some time to learn SEO as much as you can about how google indexes your site.  The bottom line is Smith Cart is setting your meta tags correctly on your product details page so your next step would be to following the recommendations outlined above or post the question to google or an SEO forum as to why google would not use your meta description in search results.
