I'm back to having the same issue with my cart not calculating sales tax. I have all of the settings set correctly (we went through all of this on my previous forum post on this topic). On top of that, SmithCart is not charging $0.00 for some of my items (when there are no discounts or coupons, no member pricing, or anything that would indicate something should be free). I decided to upgrade to the latest available version tonight and still getting the problems. I give up. This has been a total nightmare and a waste of my time. I've spent countless hours configuring this cart with all of our information and inventory, on top of troubleshooting these problems. We've been continuing to LOSE money on every single sale we have made due to these issues. If it hadn't been so long since I initially purchased SmithCart I would be demanding my money back and moving on to something different. This is ridiculous!

I just figured out why people were getting items for free. I had to delete ALL product discounts by Roles that I had setup. Every product that I had setup for that was giving everyone the product for free, regardless of whether or not they were in the discounted role. That's fine, I can deal with that, I just deleted all discounted roles.

But for the tax issue, I can't get the cart to charge tax no matter what I do. I even set each product to charge 7% sales tax. When I add that product to cart, it charges no tax. I even set the cart to charge ALL STATES a 7% tax rate. It still doesn't charge tax. What the hell is going on with this?

What version of the cart are you running?

What version of DNN?

 DNN 06.02.05

I was using Cart version 5.42 I think and upgraded to 5.50. I had the problem with both versions.

I replicated it when you asked me to last time. Why do I need to go through setting it up again in the test portal? It's the same problem.

OK, I logged into your test portal and made sure we had the same shipping/tax settings. In the test portal, I added an item to the cart and proceeded with the checkout process and yours calculated the correct tax. However, I did the same steps again, and during the checkout process, I acted like I forgot to add an item, so I backed out, added another item and then proceeded to checkout again. This time it did NOT calculate tax. I'm at the final step where I can click "Submit Order" and it's displaying the tax as "Sales Tax TBD%" and all of my billing/shipping information is displayed correctly. So the issue is still not fixed.

On my cart, it's not calculating the tax at all. One other thing I'm noticing. When I click on the VIEW CART button in your store, it takes me to my cart and displays only the items I have in my cart. However, when I click on VIEW CART in my online store, it has a box below the items in my cart asking for my shipping information. So basically, your cart does not ask for shipping information on the first page, but mine does. Mine then asks for it again after I click Proceed to checkout. Why is my cart asking for shipping information on the first page when I click VIEW CART, and yours is not? I don't see any settings for that.

Hi Randy,

I took a look at the configuration you set up on the test site and the reason you were not seeing the Ship To form on the Cart page is the Product that was added to the Cart that had a weight of 0. When using the Shipping calculator, a product weight is required to display the Ship To, and Shipping Method fields on the Cart page as a product with a weight of "0" technically will not need to be shipped and therefore would not need select a Shipping Method. These fields are also used to determine the tax rate when using the Flat Tax in Taxable States List option.

With all that being said, I still have not been able to replicate the issue you're reporting and tax was calculated correctly even when backing out of checkout, and adding another product, then proceeded to checkout again. Please see the following screenshots:

Well, you've seen screenshots from my settings, so why will it not work for me? If it weren't for me having so much data setup in SmithCart, I would just completely uninstall and re-install. However, with the hours and hours of work I have spent putting in inventory, etc, that's pretty much not acceptable, unless there is a way to export and then import everything I've already done.

On your test portal, you have SmithCart 5.52. How can I get that version? The tax settings simply are NOT working with SmithCart 5.50. I've spent hours and hours going through each and every setting possible and it just simply is not working.

v5.52 is a beta version of the Cart which was installed only after we tested this issue on the portal. If you like try this version, I will provide you with a download link in the Help desk Ticket you submitted this morning.
