I've setup the Australia Post shipping calculator which is working fine, but a few categories need be posted in an envelope which is much cheaper than the lowest rate from the shipping calculator as it doesn't appear to have an option for envelopes (only parcels).

I've tried setting up Custom Shipping Methods based on Weight, and selected the relevant categories, but it's not working unless I setup an item under "Custom Shipping Methods" but whatever dollar amount I set in this item appears on the shipping calculation instead of the weight based price. And the Custom Shipping Method appears in the cart for any product I add to cart, not just for products within the selected categories.

How do I make this work? Is there another way?

Basically, I just need a fixed shipping price for all products in a couple of categories which are small enough to fit an envelope.

I had thought of setting free shipping for some categories and using a handling charge to set the price, but I'm unclear on how this works either. Seems that I have to enter free shipping for every postcode in Australia for each of the selected categories and then would still need to set up a Custom Shipping Method which would then appear in the cart for any products ordered and we only want it for some products.

The Australia Post envelope API is separate to the parcel one I'm fairly sure, so I don't think integrating it alone will solve the problem.

I guess my question is can I have Australia Post as the shipping calculator, but then override that for some products or categories to have different shipping pricing?
