Because of the vast number (2900+) products that we have in our store, I copied all of the JPG files of the products to the correct folder, and imported them.

However, that didn't generate thumbnails of the products; now new products that are being added through the store interface are showing up as a different size than ones that were copied and imported.

Is there a way to trigger the thumbnail routine so that it processes all of the JPG's and makes the thumbnails properly?

Currently there is no way to trigger the thumbnail resizing routine if you import products. Here are a couple alternate solutions for you:

  1. If you have thumbnail images for your products now you can ftp them to the thumbs directory on your server then when you import your products import the thumb image name and the thumbnail will be displayed in the catalog.
  2. If you dont have thumbs today you could ftp your regular size images to the thumb folder on your server and when you import your products import the same image name for both the thumb image and large image. Then open the productlist.ascx and specify a height and width property on the image control that displays the thumbs to size.

Hmmm... I have a handy image resizer... what if I copy all my original images to the thumbnails folder, and resize them to "thumbnail" size?

That would work just remember to import the thumb names to the thumb column in the products table if you havent already done so.
