Can each category and product in Smith Cart have its own individual page to allow for easy navigation from other pages outside the shopping cart and catalog? For example, the URL for our page called Catalog (hosting the Smith Cart) stays the same even though we change categories, so we are unable to produce navigation from other menus outside the shopping cart to the page that features the category in question.

Each product does have its own page if you go to your product details page you will notice each product has a unique url. Additionally, in version 2.87 we added new seo features to allow product names and category names in the urls. On the product side we created a new field for you to enter the keyword to add to the url for the product but for the category we used the category name.

On the category side you have a couple of options for unique urls and creating your own pages:

1. You can create your own category pages and pass the categoryid in the querystring as well as any keyword for seo purposes. See this forum post http://www.smith-consulting.com/forum... Using the same url syntax add your seo keywords to the end of the url as parameters.

2. Starting in v2.87 the cart passes the category name in the url. In 2.88 in the category management area there is a new field called "Category SEO URL" where you can enter your own category keywords in the url similar to what we implemented on the product side in v2.87.

Hope this helps!

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the information! I will look forward to upgrading to version 2.8.8! When do you expect that release will be available?

Andrew

Hi Scott,

We installed version 2.88 and enabled URL names for the categories. However, on the main catalog page, if you click a category, the URL still remains as www.operabracelets.com/category.aspx and does not change to the category selected. The contact displays correctly, but the URL remains the same for each category. Any ideas?

Thanks!

There is a new field in the category setup screen called "URL Keyword" you need to enter the keyword in that screen for it to show up in the url. Prior to 2.88 when you clicked on the category it automatically added the category name in the url but we had a couple people report issues because they had ampersands in their category names.

We have already set up the URL keywords for all 4 of our categories and it is still not working. When I click on a category link, the page that renders which houses just the products of that category has the default URL www.operabracelets.com/category.aspx.

When I hover over an entry on the category list on the left side of the main product page, the link is " __doPostBack('dnn$ctr533$ProductsList$MenuCategories','2')", not a link to a separate category page. Does that provide any insight?

Are you using the category module or the categories within the buynow module?

Hi Scott,

The issue is in the Buy Now module. We set up the category list module on a standalone category page we created and those links did go to the proper category pages within Buy Now with the right URL showing. For example, when we clicked the Wagner link in the category list module, the Wagner category page within Buy Now came up properly with the Wagner URL.

What's strange is when I got to that Wagner category page and then clicked another category or the general products link, the proper page came up, but the Wagner URL remained in the navigation bar! This mirrored the error when we had the general product page up with the URL www.operabracelets.com/category.aspx and clicking a category rendered the right category page, but kept the category.aspx URL up.

Any ideas on what is going on here, Scott?
