In the manual V.2.8 on page 80, it shows the set up screen for “Product SEO URL and Meta Tag Set up”. On our actual corresponding product set up page, we are missing the line called “URL name”. We have the Title, Description, and Keyword areas to fill in but no URL. We feel being able to specify our own friendly URL for the product page would be really valuable to have for SEO purposes and for the user. Was that option removed for any particular reason?

We are running 2.8.5, so I guess we need an upgrade!

Hi Scott,

We have version 2.88 installed and we put in a URL Name for a product (named Rheingold) thinking that the page for that product would be called www.operabracelets.com/rheingold.aspx. However, the name turned out to be a long, non-user friendly URL that had the word rheingold within it.

https://operabracelets.com/Catalog/ta...

Is there any way to have the product page utilize this simple URL as shown above? This will allow us to access the page through links in our menu system and be simple for customers to remember.

As far as SEO goes both urls you listed will be optimized the same but I can see what your saying from a user friendly standpoint if you are giving the url to your users. The issue is that the productdetails page reads the productid in the url to so we would need at least the productid in the querystring. The cart uses the dnn navigateurl function to move between user controls and that is the url that is generated. Do you have friendly urls in your portal or have you tried url master?

I do have friendly URL's set up in the portal and I was trying to build a rule to have the friendly URL created from the long URL for the product page, but I was not having too much luck, as it is a very complex language. I have not tried URL master, but I will check it out.

That actually brings up another question, will I be able to link directly to the product pages within Smith Cart as a submenu item under the main menu item "Products" that we currently have? We would prefer to not have to maintain 2 pages for each product, one from Smith Cart and a second one that we would have to build under the menu item "Products" that would have a link to Smith Cart for purchase.

Yes you can link directly to the product details page just navigate to the product you want to link to and copy the url from the browser address bar then go to the page properties for the menu item and paste the link in the url properties for your menu item.
