Hi,

I'm using a module called Ajax Search on the site, and it indexes most of the content from my site pretty well, except the store. I was hoping I'd be able to type in a product sku or dimensions and have that product returned, but nothing happens.

Search engines pick up the content well (yay!), but for the person that might already be on our site and searching for product, I'd like them to be able to do it from anywhere.

Any ideas?

-Mike

Hi Mike,

We have not integrated SmithCart with the 3rd party Ajax Search module you purchase from Snowcovered. If you would like to be provided with a quote to integrate the Ajax Search module with SmithCart please send an email with a link to the 3rd party search module you are using and also the link to this forum post to sales@smith-consulting.com.

Currently there are 3 different ways to search for products in your store.

1,  The first being the DNN iSearchable interface so all your products are indexed and searchable using the regular DNN search facility.

2.  The product search within the BuyNow module itself.

3.  The last would be the Smith Search module which is a separate module in Smith Cart that can be placed in any pane on any page in your portal and allows the user to search and quickly locate products in your catalog. When the user enters/selects their search options and clicks “Search” the search module will query the category and product tables and the user will be redirected to the BuyNow module product listing page and the products will be filtered according to the search criteria entered in the search module. If a search returns no rows then the search module will display a message “No records found” and remain on the same page.

For options 2 and 3 above, Smith Cart also provides the ability to enter additional product search keys that are searchable from the product listing page search box. This is useful if you would like to have products searchable on words that do not show up in the product name, sku, summary or description or they can be used for product associations or common misspellings.

Thanks,

The problem with #2 and #3 is that the user has to actively click search for results to come back; the nice thing about the ajax module is that as you type information in, it spits back results. Does iSearchable do that? The developer of Ajax said that it will index all content on the website, so I'm not sure why your wouldnt be indexed?

I guess I'd like a quote, maybe you and the Ajax developer can figure out that its something simple that needs to be done so that my products are searched; I would think that a lot of people would like this feature. It's something that would be easy enough to put on the home page of a website and provide quick search results for people.
