After reinstalling as you suggested, we can now add in variants. Thank you for your help.

For color, we have four different images to go with the four color variant names. For size, there are no images, just the values S, M, L, XL.

Now when I select color (which appears above size... I left both sort orders at 0) the image for the color shows up. Then I select size and the color image goes away and is replaced by the main product image.

How do I keep the color image instead of having it revert? Even if I change color, the specific color image does not return.

Please let me know when this hotfix is available.

I cannot achieve consistent results with the detail page variant images. Sometimes they work as described above. Other times they don't: no color specific variant images show when I click on the color radio buttons.

I'm treating the products, product variant group and product variants like a database conversion project from spreadsheets to smith_tables. So I'm truncating three or four smith_tables whenever I want to rerun a conversion. This way, each time we load the tables from spreadsheets we make improvements to the process so that one day it will be acceptable and production worthy.

However, during this, we find that the behavior is not consistent WRT variant images. I will go back and double check the data, but I've seen quite a few other posts regarding non-updating variant images and was wondering if I should know what else to check.
