I've talked with our shipping guy and went througha and placed some test orders, for some reason our shipping is usually significantly cheaper (40% in some cases)

How are the shipping rates updated?

What table to they pull from?
Are they automatically updated all the time?

We mostly ship UPS, but sometimes we ship fedex as well, is there a way to have both options available?

No the rates that I was comparing to are the standard public rathes. There seem to be about 10-20% highter in Smith Cart than what we calculate. I double checked and maked sure that I converted correctly from ounces to pounds (all of our items are pretty heavy) and it is all setup right. 16lbs on our site shows up about 8-10$ less than what Smith Cart is posting. (same zip, city, and state are selected)

You said in your post "I have the shipping setup by zip code" when you use the ship calculator you dont configure shipping by zip code can you explain what you mean by "I have the shipping setup by zip code"

Did you try selecting the different options under the "address type" radio button in the buynow settings to see if that gives you lower rates?

In one of your posts above you said you converted your product weights to pounds. In the cart product weights need to be entered in ounces did you enter your weights as ounces in the cart. How much do you products weight?

The issue might be with package type the cart defaults to "box" and since you are shipping heavy items you might be using a packaging option like crate or carton. You can always adjust the weights in the cart up or down to get the ship price to match your warehouse/packaging system.

Currently the cart doesnt have a setting to change the package type when using the UPS shipping calculator you will need to change your product weights in order to adjust the shipping cost.
