We are selling event tickets, smith cart will capture one persons details.  If a person buys 4 tickets, how could they capture the details for the rest of the people?

To request additional information from your customer you can use the Show Textbox feature located in the Cart Settings under "Checkout Step 1 Setup", "Confirmation Page Setup (Before Payment)", or "Confirmation Page Setup (After Payment)". Currently two custom textboxes are supported on each page but we modify the Cart to include additional texboxes. To receive a quote to make this modification, please send an email with link to this post to sales@smith-consulting.com.

Thanks

You could also use product variants. Smith Cart supports an unlimited number of product variants using any control type (i.e. textboxes, dropdowns, etc). So the main person buying the tickets would enter their info in the normal checkout and they would enter additional people they are buying tickets for the event on the product details page using variants.

using product variant does work for me however, when i have more than 1 text box for the same group, only the first text box shows regardless of how many text boxes should be shown.

Textbox variants should always have unique groups. The only time you should define multiple variants with the same group is when using one of the "list" control types like the dropdown list.
